Malware that shows adult content in apps as ads

Android is one of the most popular operating systems in the world which makes it too vulnerable for malicious attacks as well. Since there are a lot of cyber attacks happening lately, we should keep ourselves protected.

This app is known as AdultSwine and is available in the Google Play Store for free. This app contains a hidden code that displays porn ads. This app also requests for permissions that may install other harmful apps into your Android phone.

The app mainly targets audience of age groups 5-15. But the shocking thing in this issue is that this app has been downloaded between 3 to 7 million times.

There are also 60 more apps & games which do these kinds of actions in your phone.

What this app does?

  1. This app displays inappropriate ads, especially pornographic ads which are highly inappropriate to be in an app.
  2. Tricks the user to install useless fake security apps
  3. Attempts users to subscribe to premium services under the user's expense.

How this app works?

This app when installed sends a signal to its control center and confirms the installation of the app. Then it gets all the information about the android device. Finally the ads are displayed . The same way is used to display things like "your phone is affected by virus" as pop-ups and asks the user to install fake security apps.

While Google has introduced PlayProtect to prevent the users from malicious apps like these still they were not able to identify this. So as users we must be safe and install apps only with trusted ratings and from trusted developers.
