Apple officially accepts that it slows down its iPhones and apologizes to its customers for doing so.
They have officially posted about this on their website and also promises to solve this issue through another software update in the starting of 2018. For the users who are facing this issue currently, Apple has asked them to replace their batteries. If the device is under warranty they'll replace the battery for free. If not, you'd have to pay for the battery replacement. Usually, the replacement cost is $79 but Apple now has reduced the price to $29 in order to gain the trust of their customers.

Apple slows down old iPhones intentionally

Image result for apple

People usually face some lag or some sort of decrease in performance in their iPhones,iPads or iPods when their device gets old. We all usually think that this is not a big deal as the performance of all electronic gadgets decreases with time. But in case of iPhones, we usually don't face these problems as easily as we find in any other phones. Yet the lag while typing a message or while opening safari in an iPhone has been finally explained by Apple.

Apple has recently confirmed that it is slowing down iPhones through software updates in order to extend the life of their devices as the batteries start aging and cause various issues like shutting down abruptly or fast draining of battery etc. They say that they do this in order to enhance the user experience of the users.

But people won't think in the same way as Apple does. People started talking that Apple intentionally does this to make you upgrade to their latest iPhones. The charges against Apple were proved after a Reditt user posted with accurate Geekbench scores.

Apple's official statement
Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.
Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.

Case Closed?
Poole, the founder of Primetime Labs and developer of Geekbench says that the explanation given by Apple is legitimate. Lithium-ion batteries usually tend to wear off after prolonged usage which is very normal. This wear caused the phone to drain quickly as the processor demands more power. So to prevent this from happening Apple reduced the performance of their devices whose batteries have worn out.

How to solve this problem?
If you face any decrease in performance of your device, check the wear level of your phone's battery using some apps like Lirum Info Lite which is available for free in the App Store. If the Battery status is good means then there is no problem at all. Ultimately, if the battery life of your iPhone is satisfying to you, then no need to worry. Unfortunately, if you face any issues then you might have to replace your battery.
